Recollection

As a taxi driver within Auckland, I acutely became the eyes and ears of the underbelly within our society. It was during this time I discovered what people endeavored to survive and what dignitary that they were willing to sacrifice for ones own survival... Each fare had their own perception of reality. Some misguided and yet some knew what it took to make it.
From the illusion of the criminal underworld, to the reality of normality.
How many street walkers held refined positions yet needed the extra cash for their drug dependancies, university studies or their immediate kindred?
How many bashings were endeavored in the name of love? How many rapes were committed in respect for religion or culture?
So many of us lead a sheltered existence oblivious to the reality of others.
It is a challenge to open ones eyes that wishes not to envision...

Up In Smoke

Here I sit late within the evening and wearily type upon the keyboard.

My life has been full of challenges, some good and some I long to forget.

Throughout my life, I periodically sit back and evaluate,

Where I'm currently at and what I have accomplished within this period.

Which road do I wish to travel upon?

I must admit, a lifelong habit I had once farewelled,

Regularly returned disguised as some emotional crutch,

I'm now pleased that it no longer grips my daily existence,

Today, I'm 37 days smokefree.

For I will always be a smoker,

It is that I now, choose not to smoke.

Respect it.
